WELCOMING SERVICES
Fo.Co. has always been sensitive to illegal immigration issues and has long been committed to humanitarian welcoming services for asylum seekers and refugees—including adult men and MSNA (Unaccompanied Foreign Minors)—within the SAI (Reception and Integration System).
In a context of ongoing illegal arrivals (often at high human cost), with risks of informal recruitment and exploitation, Fo.Co. aligns with SAI guidelines to welcome people, aiming to foster their autonomy and independence from assistance needs.
This approach applies to adults and vulnerable individuals, tailoring services to each person’s characteristics. Welcomed individuals must be at the center—active in their reception and social inclusion journey, not just aid recipients.
The empowerment process, both individual and organized, helps people enhance decision-making and planning skills, regaining awareness of their value, potential, and opportunities.
Within the SAI, “integrated welcoming” combines basic material support (food and housing) with services for autonomy and inclusion. SAI territorial projects offer nine key areas:
Linguistic and intercultural mediation
Material reception
Legal orientation and support
Psychosocial and health protection
Access to local services
Professional training and upskilling
Social integration support
Job placement guidance
Housing integration assistance
This complex journey requires a holistic approach considering rights, duties, expectations, personal traits, history, and culture. Operators must listen to identify diverse needs, especially for vulnerabilities.
Fo.Co.’s educational philosophy views each person as unique, customizing based on identity and life project. Educational plans target individuals via PAI (Individualized Autonomy Plan), covering personal, functional, and social areas—not generic group approaches.
