The project’s priority is the research and development of innovative practices in the use of ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) in the effective teaching of literacy to adult migrants, including refugees, newly arrived migrants, asylum seekers, young adult migrants, and migrant women, using participatory approaches and developing guidelines that can be usefully applied at European level.

The project partnership is made up of 9 partners from 8 countries: Belgium, Estonia, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, and Spain. It builds strategic cooperation between formal and non-formal trainers and educational institutions. The project promotes the strategic use of open and flexible learning, as well as the creative use of ICT and media for language learning, using for example mobile devices and social media such as apps, WhatsApp, Facebook, Badoo, and others commonly used by migrants and refugees.

Through the development of 8 national toolkits in the partners’ national languages for teaching literacy and digital literacy to migrants, the project aims to develop multiple learning pathways integrated into the national contexts of the partner countries, thus providing innovative tools for educators and teachers working in the field.

Another objective of the project is to train educators working in adult education, develop their media and digital literacy competences, and create a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), which will be available on the project website and beyond the project duration in English, in order to develop useful and usable training modules for teachers at European level.

Within the framework of the Migrant Liter@cies project, Fo.Co., together with Zaffiria and the CPIA of Ragusa and CPIA of Trapani, produced “A toolkit for a new literacy: Media Literacy and Migrants.” The toolkit provides practical examples, tools, and methodologies to support educators and teachers working with adult migrants in literacy pathways integrating ICT.
