INCLUSIVE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES WITH INADEQUATE OR POSTPONED FORMAL EDUCATION

The IncludeME project aims to develop an innovative training programme, accompanied by digital tools, to provide all the mechanisms and resources needed by organisations – within their national context – that work with young immigrants or migrants, refugees (especially newly arrived), and members of national or ethnic minorities who face substantial challenges and limited language opportunities.

The project also aims to promote equal opportunities in terms of access, inclusion, diversity, and equity for the target group within European societies, by increasing their access to training and learning processes through well-structured study programmes adapted to their specific needs.

Inclusive educational opportunities for migrants and refugees with inadequate or postponed formal education

Objectives

• Develop and test the IncludeME educational package and training course, well structured for youth workers to develop the skills and competences of young migrants and refugees with inadequate or postponed formal education in three development areas (literacy skills, cultural competences, digital literacy).

• Build the IncludeME digital tools (e-learning platform and learning pills) to provide young migrants and refugees with high-quality training and learning opportunities tailored to their specific digital readiness needs.

• Create the IncludeME Education and Career Guide, which will help young migrants and refugees make informed decisions about their education and, ultimately, their professional lives.

• Develop the IncludeME Practical Resilience Guide to help young migrants and refugees cope with mental distress, a common feature of long and difficult journeys that can prevent them from thriving in educational settings.

• Raise awareness among target groups, associated partners, stakeholders, and decision-makers about the importance of developing literacy skills, acquiring cultural competences, and improving digital readiness for young migrants and refugees with inadequate or postponed formal education, in order to ensure a smooth transition into the formal education system.

Activities

• Kick-off meeting in Italy. This meeting will bring partners together for the first time. During the meeting, partners will get to know each other better and discuss all aspects of the project, including timeline, roles, and responsibilities.

• Development of the research framework, which will provide a reference framework for partners to start working on the research.

• Implementation of national-level research. During this period, partners will work locally to carry out the research, compile the findings in a national report, and share them with the work package leaders for comparative analysis.

• Drafting of the competence framework model. The work package leaders will develop the framework by integrating the results of the research conducted by the partners and by designing a competence model that identifies the skills young migrants and refugees with low levels of education need to develop.

• Development of the IncludeME educational package. Based on the research findings, partners will design the training package.

• Testing of the IncludeME training package, which will be piloted during an international training event in Slovenia.

• Evaluation and quality assurance, assessing the quality of the outputs produced using the criteria identified by P2.

• Translation of the IncludeME training package into Greek, Italian, Estonian, Slovenian, and Portuguese.

Results

• Research guidelines.

• 6 national reports.

• 1 competence framework model for youth workers working with young migrants and refugees with low or interrupted education levels.

• 1 training package.

• 1 learning activity with 3 youth workers per partner organisation. The event will take place in Slovenia, for 3 days plus 2 travel days.

Impact

By sharing project results and good practices with other organisations and stakeholders, the project will generate a broader impact at regional and national levels. The impact on participating organisations will depend on their individual capacities and the services they offer. However, by collaborating and sharing project outcomes and best practices, each organisation will benefit equally from the project and contribute to its wider impact.
